We begin with a pick-up from your hotel in La Paz. In our private transport, we head south, passing through charming urban and rural landscapes, until reaching the Uni community, located approximately two hours away. Along the way, we’ll make a brief stop at a strategic viewpoint to admire the majestic Illimani, one of Bolivia’s most iconic natural landmarks. This is a perfect moment to take photographs and enjoy the surroundings.
Upon reaching Uni, we prepare for our hike through the Palca Canyon. Before departing, we’ll pack our essentials: water for hydration, a light snack, and everything needed to fully enjoy the experience. Our guide will provide a brief yet informative introduction about the canyon, highlighting its geological features and how natural forces have shaped its unique formations over millions of years, its cultural significance and connection to local communities some tips and recommendations to make the most of the trek.
As we walk through the canyon, we’ll marvel at: impressive rock formations, Sandstone walls forming towers, columns, and natural labyrinths. Altiplano flora and fauna such as Ichu grass, cacti, vizcachas, and, if we’re lucky, condors or eagles soaring above, and natural viewpoints perfect for capturing unforgettable moments.
We conclude the hike in the charming village of Palca, a place seemingly frozen in time and surrounded by the tranquility of nature. From here, we’ll board our transport back to La Paz, enjoying the final views of the altiplano. Arrival at your hotel marks the end of this memorable tour.
