We depart from downtown La Paz at 07:00, heading towards Palcoco and then to Rinconada, located at 4,500 meters above sea level, where our journey begins. As we start our walk at a gentle pace, we begin to discover the beauty of this incredible place. Right from the start, we’ll see tender llamas and alpacas grazing in the distance, and catch sight of the river flowing from the Chiarkota Lagoon, which attracts native birds to the area.
Continuing our walk, we arrive first to Kaunakota lagoon—a stunning body of water that serves as a sanctuary for various species of Andean birds. In the background, the majestic snow-capped Condoriri peaks add to the unparalleled charm of this location.
Taking breaks for photographs and to fully absorb the surroundings, we pass by the old Condoriri refuge and reach Chiarkota Lagoon at 4,650 meters above sea level. This magical spot offers a close-up view of the Condoriri mountains, allowing us to connect deeply with the serene Andean nature. For those who still have the energy, we can extend our walk by approximately one hour to visit the Pequeño Alpamayo glacier.
Afterward, we bid farewell to the mountains and make our way back to Rinconada, where our transportation will be waiting to take us back to the city of La Paz.
